CODY RITT

Incoming Assistant Professor, 2026 Dept. Chemical & Biological Engineering University of Colorado–Boulder

Cody Ritt is an incoming Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at the University of Colorado–Boulder. He received his Ph.D. in Chemical and Environmental Engineering from Yale University as an NSF Graduate Research Fellow prior to joining the Department of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) as a Postdoctoral Associate. At MIT, he currently serves as the Executive Officer for the Center for Enhanced Nanofluidic Transport (CENT)—a DOE-funded Energy Frontier Research Center. Cody received the 2023 Outstanding Doctoral Dissertation Award from the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) for his work on fundamental membrane transport and nanofluidic phenomena at the Water–Energy Nexus. During this time, he also co-founded the Open Membrane Database (OMD), the first-ever centralized archive for desalination membranes. His work at MIT has focused on the development of novel 2D polymers as ultrathin gas barriers and studying the use of plant nanobionics for enhanced phytoremediation.

Beyond The Lab

Outside of the lab, I enjoy… well, being outside. I like to hike, hunt, fish, play rugby and much more. Being a Minnesota native, I’m always avidly cheering on my hometown teams and wearing shorts much further into Fall than I should. Of course, I would be remiss not to mention my better half, Nadeen. Whether it be lab group outings or spontaneous adventures around New England, my wife and dog, Mikko, are always by my side.
